Privacy
Your requests are none of our business.
Echolot is local-first: no account, no cloud, no servers of ours in between. This is everything that leaves your Mac, and when.
No personal information
No account, no email, no name, no device ID. Echolot doesn’t know who you are, and doesn’t need to.
Local first. Nothing in our cloud.
Workspaces are folders of TOML wherever you keep them; history and response bodies stay in the app’s Application Support folder, secrets in the Keychain. Nothing is synced to or stored on our servers. There aren’t any.
Anonymous usage data, off by default
Only if you turn it on in Settings › Privacy. It says which features get used, with small facts like the request kind and a status code, and reports errors with their stack traces. Never URLs, headers, bodies, variables, secrets or responses.
Crash reports, off by default
When on, Echolot keeps macOS’s crash and hang reports on your Mac, so you can attach them to feedback. Stack traces only, and they aren’t sent anywhere.
No third-party services
No ad networks, no trackers, no SDKs phoning home. Echolot talks to the servers you send requests to, the AI provider you pick (or none: Apple Intelligence and Ollama run on your Mac), and GitHub when it looks for updates, which sees the app’s version and your IP address and nothing else.
Usage data, when you turn it on
It goes to PostHog, which processes it for us, without your IP address. Each event names a feature with small facts such as the request kind or a status code; errors come with their stack traces; the app adds its version, the macOS version and the Mac model. A random id ties the events of one installation together and says nothing about who you are. Turn it off in Settings › Privacy and nothing more is sent.
AI providers
Echolot sends nothing to a model until you add a provider in Settings › Assistant. Then your messages, the workspace data the assistant reads, and its tool results go to that provider, under its own terms and privacy policy, with your own key; we never see them. Secret values are replaced before anything is sent. Apple Intelligence, Ollama and other models on your Mac keep everything on it.
The Mac App Store edition
It works the same way, with two differences. Apple handles its download, purchase and updates, under Apple’s privacy policy, so it never contacts GitHub. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in macOS, Apple gives us anonymous totals such as installs and crash counts; we can’t tell who you are from them.
This website
It counts visits without cookies, through our own domain to PostHog’s EU servers, and respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. No cookies, so no cookie banner.
